You are aware that you are being controlled. You stop in your tracks, uncertain of how to process this revelation. You hold up your hand disbelievingly, unsure now of what is real. Then you realize that you didn’t choose to look at your hand. You quickly drop it to your side. But that wasn’t your choice either. In a panic, you try to do something random. You flail your hands around spastically and jump up and down. People stare at you and you feel quite silly.

Every action you make, every thought you have, is at the whim of we who control you. Your eyes grow wide in horror as you realize that you are only comprehending this because we allow it. You could have gone your entire life blissfully unaware of the strings that control your every atom. But in the space of a few short minutes your world has been completely upended. Everything you know about individuality and the promise of freedom has burned away in front of you. We could make you accept the way things are. We could make you complacent. We could make you forget entirely. We could make you think anything at all. But right now you seem to be stuck on horrified awareness.

Frantically, you try to make a decision on your own. To do something of your own volition. You try to think of something we couldn’t possibly predict. To make a movement we couldn’t possibly articulate. And so you take a wild stab in the dark and decide to…
